Abu Salem to feature in the film!!

Portugal has given the green signal to shoot a film on Abu Salem, who has been extradited to India, in their country. Tarla Sarogi, wife of Salem's lawyer, is making the film 'Jazba' that will trace Abu Salem's journey from his home town in Uttar Paradesh's Azamgarh to his rise as one of India's most wanted criminals.

Abu Salem and his friend Monica Bedi were extradited from Portugal last year. Tarla had earlier sought permission to shoot in Dubai, where Abu Salem once allegedly operated. But the authorities had turned down her request.

'We have got permission to shoot in Portugal but not in Dubai,' Tarla's husband Ashok Sarogi told reporters here Saturday.

He added: 'A lot of progress has been made on the project. We have finalised the cast and the script. Abu (Salem) will also feature in the film. But it is too premature to divulge the names of the actors who will feature in the film.

'An appeal will be made to the special Terrorist And Disruptive (Preventive) Acts court so that Abu is released from jail for shooting certain crucial scenes that will feature him.'

Abu Salem is facing charges in eight cases of murder and is an accused in the March 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai. Apart from his venturing into films, Abu Salem is also set to contest elections as an independent candidate from the Sarai Mir constituency in Azamgarh district next year.

Supreme Court comes to Sridevi's rescue!

A few years ago, a very troubled man filed a case against Sridevi in Madras High Court seeking restitution of conjugal rights claiming that she was married to him!!! The case was first filed at a family court in Chennai. Madras High Court dismissed the case but Vicharapu Ramkrishna Gowd, the man who claimed to be the husband of the actress Sridevi, wasn't ready to give up.

He decided to move the Supreme Court. The highest court of India refused to entertain the petition seeking quashing of the High Court order. Gowd had produced fake papers and ration cards with Sridevi's name listed as his wife! A very irritated Sridevi had no choice but to attend the court.

Sridevi is not the first celebrity whom Vicharapu Ramkrishna Gowd claimed that he'd got married to. A few years before that episode, he had made such ridiculous claims against Priyanka Gandhi, daughter of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. He managed to produce fake ration cards in her case too!

What an annoyance!

Trisha to star opposite Venkatesh

Actor Venkatesh who has always been known for his clean family entertainers, is now busy shooting for another one of them in Hyderabad. This time paired opposite him is Trisha. Interestingly, Jyothika was penciled for this role earlier but she opted out of the film after her marriage to Suriya.

It is a role which is completely different from Trisha's role in Stalin opposite Chiranjeevi.

Trisha, the number one actress in both Telugu and Tamil cinema, today is playing the lead in Aadavari Matalaku Ardhaley Veruley. A role that she hopes will mark her coming of age.

"The title itself shows that it is a female-oriented film. It is very different for me. It is not the usual bubbly character I play. It is a sober character, little more matured character," said Trisha.

"It is about this girl and her circumstances that force her to do a few things. Everyone will relate to her at some point," he added.

Paired opposite Trisha is actor Venkatesh who says the many emotional scenes in the film have taken their toll on his eyes.

The movie will be released in February next year, which like many of Venkatesh's films will target the female audience. Venkatesh is hugely popular among Andhra women because he does mostly clean family entertainers.

"The title itself has created a lot of curiosity. A lot of people have loved the title and it is also from a very famous song. It might have a flavour of my earlier films but my character is very fresh,'' said Venkatesh.

The movie will be much looked forward to because it comes after Venkatesh has completed 20 years in films. Expectations will be high also because just like Trisha's Stalin is still running strong at the box office. Venkatesh's last movie, Lakshmi was also a super hit.

Strike against ban on dubbing films

Council, dubbing artists and producers went on a hunger strike and peaceful demonstration near the Council’s office on 9th November. Ravishankar (brother of Saikumar), Ayyappa P. Sharma, Vennelakanti Ramakrishna, Ramanamurthy, Bellamkonda Suresh, Narra, Mallikharjuna Rao, Ghantasala Venkata Ratnam, N.V. Prasad, Raghu Kunche and few other participated in this strike.

Keeping in view the 200 odd low budget movies that are yet to see the light of day due to lack of buyers, the Producers Council decided to ban import of dubbed movies as producers are vying more for the dubbed movies than encouraging local low budget movies.

In response to such statements made by the Council, artist Ravi Shankar, brother of dubbing King Sai Kumar, said “it is unfair to ban dubbed movies which provide livelihood to hundreds of families. The ban won’t hurt the other film industries instead Telugu artists will lose their jobs. I request the Council members to think about all the people who will be jobless because of this ban”

Producer B.Subrahmanyam of Lakshmi Ganapathi Films said that instead of imposing a ban on dubbed movies the Council should impose ban on artists imported from other states.

Abhishek, Urmila pair up for Mehabooba

In filmmaker Ramgopal Varma’s remake of the cult classic Sholay, the infamous Mehbooba song will not be forgotten. Actor Abhishek Bachchan has been roped in to perform the song along with actress Urmila Matondkar, while Amitabh Bachchan who plays the villain Gabbar Singh will be looking on and enjoying the performance like actor Amjad Khan in the original Sholay. The part of the on-screen crooner had originally been played by Jalal Aga.

In the past, the father-son duo of Abhishek and Amitabh has worked well, considering the popularity of songs like Kajra re from Bunty Aur Babli and Rock ‘n’ Roll from Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna.

The central point in Ramgopal Varma Ke Sholay seems to Gabbar Singh, with everything surrounding the character being planned meticulously.

The location for the Mehbooba song has been a huge speculation point, and sources report that Varma has already rejected Dubai and Australia as options.

He’s now busy finalising an exotic location and insiders say it could be Morocco.

'Maharathi' is hitting the screen with Balakrishna, Sneha, Meera Jasmine and Navaneeth Kour. The major attraction in the film is old beauty Jayaprada. Since the beginning of the film Jayaprada has been saying that her role in the film is a mixture of glamour and seriousness.

It was also told that there are a few interesting scenes between Balakrishna and Jayaprada. Listening to this, many have smelled that there would be something like between Chiranjeevi and Lakshmi in 'Alluda Majaka'.

But film circles and film lovers are discussing on this matter by opining that only EVV can make films with such an extent of vulgarity and others can't venture to do so. Above all Jayaprada is now an MP and hence she wouldn't venture to project herself vulgar even through the script demands.

Whatever be the discussions, the reality can be known only after watching the film.

Nayantara's costly medical treatments

It is now becoming a habit with Nayantara to undergo treatments to improve her already gorgeous looks. During the making of 'Boss', she underwent drastic liposuction surgeries and was so exhausted that she fainted on the sets. But that isn't stopping her from undergoing another medical treatment. This one is to improve her skin texture.

Before 'Stalin' began, there were rumors that Trisha had gone to Singapore to undergo a special but very, very expensive treatment to make her skin look baby-soft and lustrous. Each sitting costs about Rs 1 Lakhs. And, normally, you'll have to undergo four such sittings over the period of a month.

Nayantara too has decided to undergo the same treatment in Singapore. The results will be visible before the end of this year.

Tamil films' script is hero saga

Right from the era of MGR and Shivaji Ganeshan, Tamil cinema has often been accused of tailoring films to suit the hero's image. Every dialogue is scripted and every song is composed to project, not just a hero but also a leader of the masses.

"The success of MGR as a film star, as a politician and today as an iconic figure is not by fluke, and not because he has a cut on his chin. He worked for it in every film of his. He worked for the exact results he wanted and got them,” says scriptwriter, Randor Guy.

The MGR-Sivaji era faded away and gave birth to the Rajnikanth and Kamala Hassan era. However, films remained centered around the big stars and experiments were rare.
The titles, the punch dialogues even the songs are mostly tuned to galvanise the star images, turning the actor into a revolutionary and larger than life hero.

There were few actors including Kamala Hassan, who experimented with roles in films. However, those films only had a fifty-fifty chance at the box office.

"I think every hero wants a script that backs him. A script that is tailor-made for him. When we write, we tend to write for the hero,” says director, Gautam Memon.
However, with young entries wanting to experiment, to establish themselves in the industry, Tamil cinema seems to be hitting a new era.

Competition has become tough and even bigger stars including Vikram and Surya are willing to shed the conventional hero image.

"What we're looking for is performance-oriented roles where we can prove ourselves as actors first. After that you get into mass films and try to give a message," says actor, Arya.

What's perhaps even more heartening is the fact that several experimental films are getting a good deal at the box office.

A reminder perhaps that both Tamil cinema and the audience may be changing slowly.

Sada to become Producer?

Thanks to a streak of bad luck, Sadha just wasn’t able to capitalize on the fabulous launch that she had in both Telugu and Tamil. Just when she almost vanished, Luck again helped her with ‘Aparichitudu’. Unfortunately, that didn’t do anything much to her career either.

Now, two big rumors are making the rounds about her.

There are reports that the actress might soon make her Bollywood debut with a romantic film. Sadha says that she is absolutely delighted with the offer and is eagerly looking forward to working in the film.

Then, there are also stories that she intends to produce a film, of course, with her in the female lead.

Her ‘special song’ appearance in a yet-to-be released Malayalam film is bound to get her a few more offers from Kerala (which still is reeling under acute shortage of heroines). But, for some reasons, the film’s release is getting delayed.
