Rakshitha, Prem tie knot in B'lore

Fans from across Karnataka gathered in Bangalore as popular Kannadiga actress Rakshitha tied the knot with actor-director and long time love Prem.

Though actress will quit acting for now - she won't be bidding goodbye to the film industry yet.

"I will not be acting in any more movies. But Prem and I are going to start a production house and so I will still be a part of the industry," says Rakshitha.
When asked if it was hubby Prem who asked her to quit films, she says, "He did not ask me to quit, but it was a joint decision."

But then, how difficult is it going to be for a seasoned actress as Rakshitha to stay off-screen? "When I stepped out of home yesterday and I saw a thousand people waiting for me to wish me a happy married life, I was over whelmed," says Rakshitha.

"It feels nice that so many fans are there. In fact, till yesterday, I was getting calls from people telling me to re-think my decision and not to quit," she adds.
Rakshitha shot to fame in her debut movie Appu after which there has been no looking back. Prem, on the other hand, became an ace director with films such as Excuse-me and Jogi.

And no doubt fans are disappointed that the couple will no longer be seen together onscreen after their last film Preeti Yeke Bhoomi Mele Iddae. "He is such a good director and she is such a beautiful actress, I will be upset if they don't make films together," says a fan.

'Muni' proved to be a good commercial hit

Raghava Lawrence, who had earlier directed 'Mass and Style', directed 'Muni' as his third project in Tamil, which was dubbed into Telugu and was released simultaneously on March 9.

The film had achieved a commercial hit talk right from the morning show after its release.

Raghava Lawrence had played the role of a timorous personality, who doesn't move out of the house alone after 6 pm, while Rajkiran did a mass leader's role.

The way Lawrence entertained the audiences with his performance in the first half received a good applause from the audiences. Heroine Vedika also performed well and almost competed with Lawrence in dance sequences.

The audiences expressed the opinion that Raghava Lawrence did the direction excellently and achieved the hattrick as director.

The film has similarities of Chandramukhi. Lawrence says 'This is a horror film with political backdrop. I am inspired with the success of Chandramukhi and made this movie. The hero of the film is very timid and gets frightened even to venture out after 6 pm. An Atma enters into his body and changes his entire attitude. How it happened and what are the consequences is the subject. We made the film as a commercial entertainer with dances and fights. There is a very good response to the audio for which Ramani Bharadwaja gave tunes. Almost all the characters came out very well. We thought of making the film in 100 days but were able to complete in 85 days. I am sure that 'Muni' would earn me a very good name.'

RGV's new film to be banned?

There is something about Ramgopal Varma that doesn't let him stay away from the midst of controversies. His latest film, 'Nisshabdh' is his latest invitation to big-time troubles.

The film stars Amitabh Bachchan as a 60-year-old man who falls in love with the 18-year-old close friend of his daughter. Like most RGV heroines, the 18-yeaar-old girl is dressed in pretty glamorous dresses leaving nothing much for the imagination. Pictures of her, in a white shirt and tiny hotpants, playing with the water-hose had been making the rounds for a while now.

With a storyline that controversial, it was only natural that the film ended up receiving lot of wrong attention.

Many wondered why a respectable actor like Amitabh Bachchan would star in such a seemingly disgusting role. Others wanted to know if the film was simply pedophilia in disguise. Like most of RGV's recent releases, the film attracted lot of publicity but isn't doing that good in theatres.

Uttar Pradesh congress is not that keen on taking chances with such films and is now planning to ban it.

Fresh from the blood-chilling series of child murders in Nithari, the government is very cautious about not giving any wrong signals to the media.

RGV calls it a film that portrays a 60-year-old man's struggles to come to terms with his romantic love for an 18-year-old girl. Not many are convinced about the noble intentions, though.

RGV's detractors claim that a ban is very unnecessary

60 days, 30 films but only two hits

The Telugu film industry had achieved good successes right from January last year. However, the success rate in 2007 was not that crazy.

A total of 30 films (including straight and dubbing) were released in a span of two months in January and February this year. Of them only 'Desamuduru' of Stylish Star Allu Arjun, and 'Yevadaithe Naakenti' of Dr Rajasekhar were proved commercially successful.

In January 12 films including six each from straight and dubbing movies. Of them only 'Desamuduru' was proved a big hit. However, a big film like 'Yogi' turned a flop. In February, 13 straight films and 8 dubbed films were released and of them Dr Rajasekhar's 'Yevadaithe Nakenti' was proved successful and gave a solace to the hero as he is craving for a big hit.

Though films like Notebook, Madhumasam, Anumanaspadam and Lakshmi Kalyanam had received an average talk, they proved week in getting good revenues and are not commercial hits.

The film pundits are expressing fear over the future of the Telugu cinema with the current trend giving wrong signals.

Why is `Jagadam` delayed?

Jagadam means fight or brawl. The buzz in the trade is that there is some difference of opinion between Sukumar the director of the film and Aditya Babu its producer.

The film was scheduled for release on March 1 but now no one is exactly sure when it would release. It seems that Sukumar has sought some more time for the post-production work which is bone of the contention.

The film that has ran into over budget, the delayed release is causing worry for the producer. Producer Aditya feels that Sukumar and his trusted cameraman Ratnavelu escalated the budget beyond the market value of its film.

Though the music of Jagadamis creating waves at audio market, the confusion over its release date is spoiling its sheen. Will the director and producer sort out their differences?

Shriya does Trisha role!

Shriya once was the top heroine in Tollywood. And she had acted with almost all the leading heroes from Megastar Chiranjeevi to the Prabhas. What is more in her entry to Tamil filmdom, she bagged the chance to act with Rajnikant in Shankar’s magnum opus, Shivaji.

After that she has also been flooded with offers from Bollywood. She has just signed the Bollywood version of Atadu. Sangeeth Sivan is directing the Hindi remake of Atadu with hero Bobby Deol. Shriya has bagged the chance to play the female lead that was originally done by Trisha in Telugu.

Shriya is also doing another Hindi film, Awaarapan opposite Imran Hashmi.

Strangely, Shriya’s career is not moving an inch in Tollywood. Her last film was Chatrapathi that was a blockbuster (though she also did a cameo in Devadasu and Boss). It seems her career in Tollywood is almost at nadir. But Shriya’s first love is always our Tollywood. She regularly visits our Hyderabad and likes to have Andhra Fish curry, her favorite dish.

Sivaji mp3 and video in internet

It is no surprise that Sivaji is the most awaited movie in Kollywood. The audio of the movie has also generated lots of excitement among fans. Again no surprise when it involves A.R.Rahman, Shankar and Rajinikanth.

It was for "Boys" that A.R.Rahman and Shankar last came together and the audio sales skyrocketed fighting all odds in the form of piracy. Boys audio hit the piracy market well before the official audio release and its MP3 audio files were available in the internet.

Now there are fears that same could happen with Sivaji audio. Already there are certain audio files claiming to be Sivaji songs making rounds in the internet. There are forums and e-mails boasting of having a copy of the Sivaji songs. It appears that some one has recorded the songs during the shoots of the songs.

Knowing how Shankar keeps everything tight and secured, it is hard to believe this audio could be of Sivaji's. But to make matter worse there are also video files of the shoot of the songs that is going rounds in the internet.

Meanwhile the original audio of the movie is expected to hit the stands by this month. Sources confirm that there is a huge demand on Sivaji audio and is expected to sell over within a few days of its entry to the stores.

"Sivaji audio has generated a great interest among the youth. We get enquires on Sivaji every day. There are also request for advance bookings" said Music World manager. "We have not had so many enquiries recently for any movie like we had for Sivaji" he added. Sivaji is definitely a salesman's treat.

Chiranjeevi's next with director Shankar

Director Shankar is one of the most popular directors of Kollywood now. There is a race among the producers to sign him for their projects.

Oscar Films Ravichandiran is already in talks with him. A.M.Rathnam is also ready to forget the bitter experience of Boys and join hands with this ace filmmaker and. Actor Vijay had already made known his openness in working with him.

But it seems like Shankar may not give his precious contract to any of the above production houses or personalities. After Shivaji, he would be directing a Telugu movie with Chiranjeevi in the lead role.

Thiruppathi Prasad will be the producer of this film. Actually, Prasad had signed an agreement with Shankar to make a Telugu film after Anniyan. But AVM Saravanan requested him to allow Shankar to undertake the Rajini starrer Shivaji, deeemed as a mega film of South film Industry. To compensate this loss, AVM has given the Telugu rights of Shivaji to Prasad.

Jodhpur says sorry to Ash-Abhishek

The wedding of actors Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai may not be held in Rajasthan's Jodhpur city due to shortage of hotel rooms, and the new possible venues could be Jaipur or Gwalior, informed sources said.

The sources said Jodhpur was found unsuitable since March is the peak tourism season in the desert state. The Bachchans had earlier planned to host the marriage at the grand Umaid Bhavan Palace here.

According to sources in Umaid Bhavan Palace, Bollywood's first family has decided to shift the venue to Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh or Jaipur. The marriage is expected to take place on March 19.

"They want to hold the wedding ceremonies in a heritage property. So they are now looking for a city that can provide them with the required setting. Gwalior and Jaipur seem to be the frontrunners," a hotel source said.

Travel industry experts, however, say that finding the required numbers of rooms in Jaipur in March would also be very difficult because of tourist rush.

Even foreign tourists are desperate for rooms in Rajasthan now.

"It would not be easy for anyone to get rooms in March. We are being forced to change itineraries for our foreign clients this month due to shortage of rooms," said Navendu Goswami, a tour operator.

Amitabh Bachchan had earlier sent couple of his close friends to Jodhpur to finalise the hotel bookings in Umaid Bhavan as well as four other hotels. They wanted to book these hotels for a period of three days from March 18.

As directed by astrologers, the Bachchan family is keen that Abhishek and Aishwarya tie the knot as soon as possible.

Umaid Bhavan, however, is currently all set to play host to the wedding parties of Liz Hurley and Arun Nayar. Hurley and Nayar married in England March 3 after which they will host celebrations in Mumbai and Jodhpur. The couple arrived in Mumbai Monday. The couple have booked the hotel from March 7-10.

Now it's the turn of cinema to attack news media

It is the easiest thing for print media to do: attack cinema personalities and criticize them and not to forget the gossips that the media feeds the rumor mills. Now Ramgopal Verma, the noted director from Bollywood has decided to enter into the print media.

Ramgopal Verma who is busy finalizing the script for his Sholay remake would soon make a formal announcement of the start of the journal titled "Fire". It is not the first time a film personality is trying his hands in the media field. We had director Sridhar (of Kadhalikka Neyramillai fame) starting a journal but could not hold on to it. T.Rajendar too started a journal named "Usha" and then dropped out.

The man who has tasted success (and still is) is Bhakyaraj whose journal titled "Bhakya" is doing well. Will Ramgopal Verma taste success? Sources close to the director say that "Fire" could target the journalists and criticize all their wrong moves. Now the journalists would be under the watchful eyes of "Fire".

So is it time we get to know some gossips on journalists too? Wait till "Fire" comes out.

Priyamani criticizes Tamil directors

Priyamani at a film function strongly criticized that the Tamil producers for neglecting Tamil girls like her and giving chance to Mumbai models or Kerala actors only.

'Being a Tamil girl, I would always like to acting in my mother tongue. But who gives chances to Tamil girls like me. Director Bharathiraja introduced me in his film Kangalala Kaithu Sei after which I got a chance in Balu Magendra's Adhu Oru Kanakkalam. Film critics hailed these films and appreciated my acting skills. But there were no offers from the others. Director Ameer recognized me and gave such a crucial role in Paruthi Veeran. But in Telugu I got chances regularly. After the hit of Paruthi Veeran only, I got many offers from Tamil filmmakers. But I have already committed to some Telugu films. At present I have accepted only two Tamil projects...' she told spontaneously.

According to this actor, filmmakers should gives priorities to the actors and actresses from the same language. Acting with a knowledge of the language would make the character more impressive. 'How can one expect meaningful acting from a person anonymous to this language?' She asked.

In Telugu also Priyamani does not need any dubbing artist as she can dub for her own.

Chiru : 'Yes! I lost that by gaining this'

Chiranjeevi said that he gained a lot by entering films but lost something as well. "To gain something we have to lose something. This quotation wouldn't apply for all at all the times. I lost something with the aim to win place in the hearts of people. Yes I lost the freedom to walk on roads", smiled Chiranjeevi saying that.

He also said, "I also spent less time with my family when I was busy with different films. Had I did that for selfishness that would have been a mistake. But since I did that with an ambition, no one felt bad about that at my home. Kuch Pane Ke Liye Kuch Khona Padtha Hai".

Chiranjeevi also says that laziness and negligence are more dangerous than selfishness and greed for money.

Why is Charmi refusing to sign films?

Is the charming Charmi has plans to go into a hibernation? We hope this is not true. This leaves us confused. But we cannot figure out as she has been rejecting all her recent film offers and hasn’t been signing any new ones.

Also she has told some producers who offered her films that she is not taking up any new projects. We are also not sure is she is getting married or planning retirement from films.

But as Charmi says she is having a terrible back problem and that’s the reason she is not taking up any more films. This reminds us that Charmi got badly hurt in an accident on the sets of ‘Rakhi’ and ever since she is facing health problems.

But we are not sure if this is the sole reason as reports about her link up with a married man from the industry is also in news.

Theatre actors disappointed with Shankardada Zindabad!

'Shankardada Zindabad', a Telugu remake of Hindi hit film 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' with Megastar Chiranjeevi, was launched recently and the shooting is going on.

At the time of the launch, neither the producers nor Chiru cared to tell the names of other artistes except Srikanth, who is playing Arshad Warsi’s character.

Most of the people were curious about who would play Gandhi in 'Shankardada'... Edida Gopala Rao, a newsreader retired from AIR, a theatre artiste and another actor were in the race.

In fact, Edida Gopala Rao seemed the perfect person to play Gandhi, a role he has successfully enacted on stage and in padayatras several times. His name was doing the rounds till in the last minute it was decided to take the same actor who had played the Mahatma in the Hindi version.

The theatre actors are a disappointed lot and they have begun to feel that Telugu producers are concentrating merely on making money and the thought of encouraging Telugu artistes in Telugu films, something which should be a usual practice, is the thought farthest from their minds.

While on 'Shankardada', the rumour is that actress Sada, shooting in Hyderabad for Classmates, has been signed to play Diya Mirza’s role. Sayaji Shinde will play her father in the film. Who will be the guest actor, Venky or Pawan Kalyan, has not been decided so far.
