Select a title and bag a gift – Krishna Reddy

The shooting of Production No. 5, produced by Venkat on the banner of RR Movie Makers, presented by K Achireddy and directed by SV Krishna Reddy with Venu, Sangeeth and Shabna Khan in the lead was completed recently.

Speaking on the occasion, director SV Krishna Reddy says, 'We were able to complete the shooting without any hassles. When it comes to giving a title for the film, we had received several suggestions and all of them were looking good and apt. But we had decided to leave it to the choice of the audiences. We are considering two titles 'Kanuka' and 'Bahumati' for the film. We invite the audiences to send their choice to us, which would be finalised. When it comes to the film, a good man will always remain a good man. Our hero, who gives a word stands by it and takes it a challenge to fulfil his promise. Venu played the hero in the movie. 200 beauties in a song!

200 beauties? Just reading about it will make one's head spin, so you can imagine how it was for us to see this in person!

It is not new to have Telugu film shooting in Chennai. After AR Murugadoss and Selvaraghavan moved into the Telugu film field, they have shot many scenes for the films they direct in singara Chennai.

'Aadavari Matalukke Artham Verule' has been shot mostly in Chenani by Selvaraghavan, including a song sequence. A song was shot in Chennai's Prasad Studios and a hoard of beauties was brought in for it. There were so many that we lost count, so we finally asked the production guy. Imagine our surprise when he said 200! And none had crossed 20 years of age.

Lucky Andhra people to feast their eyes on so many beauties, we thought. A unit member close by consoled us saying that we could do the same in the Tamil version of the film! The Tamil version titled 'Yaaradi Nee Mohini' features Dhanush and Nayantara and is directed by Jawahar. It will feature the song with 200 beauties!

Sanjaya survives the cut on Idol

The questionably gifted but clearly popular Sanjaya Malakar easily survived another elimination on the hit show American Idol on Wednesday after a performance even irascible judge Simon Cowell conceded "wasn't horrible."

Indian-American singing sensation Sanjaya Malakar making it through the successive rounds of popular TV show American Idol has evoked mixed reactions.

"Regular Idol watchers, and there are 30 million of us, know that Sanjaya Malakar is an abysmally untalented contestant who not only survives elimination week after week but actually seems to become more popular. He is the worst singer among the finalists, by far," Eugene Robinson wrote in the Op-Ed pages of The Washington Post.

Terming his voice as "weak" Robinson wrote Sanjaya dances as if he has restless "leg syndrome"

"But Sanjaya is undeniably cute. And he has a world-class head of hair, which he styles a different way each week – the apotheosis, thus far, was an indescribable 'faux-hawk.' Wielding his lush locks and his charismatic smile like weapons of mass destruction, Sanjaya has conquered television's biggest show in a demonstration of force majeure that recalls Saddam Hussein's blitzkrieg of Kuwait," he wrote.

Robinson also criticised the judges of the TV show and said, "They should stop worrying about what impact their comments might have on the Sanjaya sympathy vote".

More talented singers are voted off the show, one by one, while Sanjaya survives. In the process, he seems to have grown from a shy, tentative 17-year-old into some kind of passive-aggressive monster, he adds.

Jyothika wants Surya to avoid Asin!

Many producers have requested their directors to book Asin as the heroine and Surya as a hero since the stupendous success of the film Gajini.

The producers of Vel and Varanam Ayiram wanted Asin to play the lead lady in their films. However, a strict order from wife Jyothika to avoid Asin in any of his forthcoming films has forced Surya to avoid the actress. Is Jyothika afraid that the 'reel' pair could become a 'real' one at some stage...?

A source from within the close circle of Surya says, 'there might be some truth in this gossip. When Gajini became a huge hit, Jyothika became uncomfortable as the media raved about the onscreen chemistry between the two."

Jyothika was of the impression that she and Surya made a perfect match on the celluloid. However, Asin's entry ransacked her imagination. Some might be aware of a film named Chennayil Oru Mazhaikaalam that was dropped after the completion of a brief schedule at AVM. Though Asin was supposed to play the female lead role, Surya inisted that Jyothika be cast opposite him. However, the director refused to change his heroine, and finally the project was shelved.

After a year, when the shooting for Gajini began, director Murugadoss was keen on retaining Asin in the lead role. As Surya was badly in need of a hit after the debacle of Perazhgan, he did not make any fuss and kept quiet on his choice of heroine.

Since the astounding stupendous success of Gajini, Surya now himself opts for Asin for his new films. When Gowtham informed him about his decision to cast Asin in Varanam Aayiram, Surya happily relented. But this time it was Jyothika who expressed her displeasure over the selection of Asin.

Now the crew is on the hunt of an apt face for this film, before taking off for Afghanistan. It is said that director Hari also initially selected Asin as the heroine of Vel with Surya. But now he will reconsider his choice, and search for another girl for the lead role.

Self confidence and mutual trust are the 'mantra' for the success of any relationship, and hope Jyothika is aware of that! Anyway, hope the couple keep loving each as and do not give any room for rumour-mongering.

Mohanbabu, the producer of Rajubhai, starring his younger son Manoj and Shiela (of Seethakoka Chiluka fame), is also looking at a May 4th release. He announced this at a press meet at Annapurna Studios.

Addressing the film journalists during its shooting, he claimed that his latest favourite director is Rajamouli.

Speaking about Rajamouli, Dr Mohanbabu says, 'I played different roles as a film artiste for the past 32 years. I worked with so many new directors. I played roles in over 500 films. However, only a few great directors like my mentor Dasari Narayana Rao, K Raghavendra Rao, B Gopal and Raviraja Pinisetty had created a new history in my film career. Whenever I go to shooting in their direction, they used to work with good discipline and treat their job as their mother. They work for all the 24 hours with total dedication. However, those directors who came after them were not so disciplined or dedicated. After a long time, I noticed such dedication and discipline with SS Rajamouli. When he calls me to attend the shooting at 7 O Clock, he gets everything ready and by the time I reach the shooting spot, he was busy in looking after the shot to be taken. I liked him and his attitude very much. I am very happy to play a role in his film under his direction.'

She has also done some music composition. "I knew my vocation in life was music when I turned 16," says Shruti.

Nayan seeks Rajini's help?

Nayantara still would be regretting the day she'd accepted the offer to star with Simbu. When she announced that everything between her and Simbu is over, rumors began that both Simbu and his father, actor/politician T Rajendran had threatened her of dire consequences.

We don't know how true the rumors are but it did keep her away from Tamilnadu and the Tamil film industry for a very long time.

In order to bring peace, she had to seek the help of high-level politicians in Andhra Pradesh. For a while, it looked as if peace had returned. She now has about three new offers, but she is convinced that the threats from Simbu or his father haven't ended.

Rumors are now on that she had sought Rajinikanth's help to deal with the issue. Rajinikanth has had his own problems with Simbu earlier because there were rumors initially that Simbu was involved with his elder daughter before she got married to Danush.

Not perturbed by this, the director offered the role to Siddharth who readily agreed to it. The movie will be shot in India and is expected to be released during 2007 end. Siddharth, who stole the thunder with his histrionics in RDB, is mighty pleased on getting the offer.

This movie will be one of the four movies that are going to be produced by UTV for Rakeysh. Music is by none other than the Maestro, A.R.Rahman.
