Abhishek, Aishwarya tie the knot

Pictures: Set1 Set2 Set3
Actors Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai on Friday exchanged vows at a colourful but extremely private ceremony.

One of Bollywood's best-known screen couples, Ash-Abhi married on Friday in a traditional Arya Samaji wedding with 11 priests presiding over the ceremonies.

Action at the two Bachchan households in Juhu, Jalsa and Prateeksha, began at 1700 hours IST in the evening even as fans and media persons gathered at both venues just before the scheduled time for the baraat.

As buses arrived to take guests from Bachchans’ residence Jalsa to Prateeksha, Abhishek Bachchan was spotted atop a decorated horse accompanied by his nephew as part of the baraat.

Guests at the baraat from Jalsa included industrialist Anil Ambani, actors Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan, Kirron Kher and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.

Seven buses carrying the baraatis and Bachchan Jr arrived at Prateeksha where the groom once again got on top of the horse before riding in.

Bride Aishwarya had arrived at the venue earlier on Friday evening.

The ceremony held on the auspicious day of Akshay Tritiya climaxed three days of festivities starting from a sangeet function and the traditional mehendi ceremony.

The wedding sent the media into frenzy even though the Bachchans tried to keep the event strictly private and low-key because Amitabh’s mother Teji Bachchan is ill.

But fans did not leave the couple alone as hundreds of them lined the roads leading to the marriage venue. The police also had to briefly use batons to push back over-enthusiastic fans.

Tight security has been put in place for the function, which is expected to go on till late in the night.

Simran starring as Prakash Raj's wife!

The former No 1 Simran has lost al the weight that she had gained during pregnancy and looks stunningly beautiful these days. But that hasn't helped change the attitude of the film industry towards her.

She was considered for a role as comedian-turned-hero Vadivelu in his new film but rumors are on that he wasn't that keen on starring with a heroine who also happens to be the mother of a baby!

But it looks as if ad films are a bit kinder to her than films are. She will soon be starring as Prakashraj's wife in a commercial.

Her Telugu film with Balakrishna, in which she appears as both his heroine and his 80-year-old grandma is a film that she is looking forward to.

Is Ileana really so big?

Dil Raju's Munna has picturised a song at Sarthi Studio's-Hyderabad (This set was erected for Y.V.S. Chowdary-Balllaiah's Okkadunnadu. Dil Raju made very minor changes to the same set to can the song); post-production work is over and the film is all set for release. A press meet was convened by the unit as part of the promotion campaign ahead of release. Media personnel from various newspapers and magazines arrived for the press meet along with the photographers. However, as the press meet was about to begin, Ileana asked the photographers to leave the venue.

She refused to take the dais along with the producer and the hero of the film Prabhas unless the photographers left the venue. She said that she did not want any publicity and did not want the photographers to take her pictures. Her curt and rude behaviour left a bad taste in the mouth of those present. It is time Ileana learnt to behave properly with the press. It is the film artists who need press coverage and not the media personnel. In fact, the entire film industry thrives and prospers on the shoulders of media coverage. The sooner people like Ileana learn about this, the better.

'Shivaji' postponed again!

Shankar, AVM and Rajinikanth probably have no idea how much jeopardy they are throwing the rest of the film industries in with each postponement.

Yet again, the film's release stands postponed.

After a series of postponements, it was finally confirmed that the film would hit the theatres for Tamil New Year day, the 14th of April. The Telugu version too was supposed to hit the theatres on the same day.

But then, we were told that the film is going to be released in the second week of May. That had put the releases of all the other films in jeopardy. This happened in both Tamil and Telugu. They didn't want their films to clash with the much-publicized 'Shivaji'.

Now, to everybody's annoyance, the film's release stands postponed again. The latest date is the first week of June. It looks as if the film just might end up clashing with Kamalhasan's 'Dasavathaaram'.

The big question now is- will the film make its way to the theatres atleast then or will it be postponed to July?

Saikumar to play villain again

Saikumar entered the film industry to continue the legacy of his father PJ Sharma. Though he played some small time roles, he turned a dubbing artiste and lent his voice to several popular heroes and became the main reason for the success of their films, by claiming 70 per cent of the success credit for his voice.

He later turned a hero with 'Police Story' and became a successful hero. However, the films which came later failed to make it to box office and pushed him into the dark for some time.

Very recently, he played a negative role in 'Samanyudu' with Jagapatibabu as hero and earned the compliments from every quarter. Saikumar personally thanked Jagapatibabu for recommending his name for the role and helped in proving the artiste in him at the 'Samanyudu' success meet.

It is reliably learnt that Saikumar again agreed to play villain in a film to be directed and produced by Samudra with Kalyanram as hero.

If Saikumar continues his career as villain, the Telugu film industry would get a fantastic and stylish villain.

Recently, atleast two magazines in Tamilnadu had her glamorous cover-pictures. There isn't any positive feedback yet.

Meanwhile, rumors of her "closeness" to her makeup man continue to make headlines everywhere. Even before it ended, pictures of her partying out with actor Raja too have surfaced all over the media.
