Srija at Delhi Court, Pawan surrenders revolver

During the time when Sreeja's marriage is slowly sinking in and the whole episode is cooling down, a new twist of events brought the whole episode back to limelight. Sreeja went to Delhi Highcourt seeking police protection while Pawan Kalyan assured no harm to her and surrendered his licensed revolver at Jubilee Hills police station.

The newly wed, Srija and Sirish, knocked the doors of Delhi High Court seeking protection for their lives. Having failed to receive any response from the Deputy Commissioner of Police, North Zone, here in Secunderabad on their application for police protection, the young couple said they have no other alternative but to approach the Delhi High Court, which immediately directed the family of the Megastar to give an undertaking that no harm would be done to the young couple and the next hearing of the case in the Delhi HC was posted to Oct 29.

Meanwhile, having come to know about PaWan Kalyan surrendering his revolver and assuring that no harm would be done to the couple, Sriji stated that she has confidence in the assurance made by her uncle and would soon come home.

Attired in a silk white dhoti and kurta and white angavashtram draped round his shoulder, Pawan Kalyan reached the Jubilee Hills Police Station in a motorcade with his supporters. Holding the revolver in his right hand and the license in the other hand, Pavan Kalyan briskly walked into the police station and surrendered the weapon and the license.

Before entering the police station, Pawan Kalyan, speaking to waiting media personnel and Television crew, stated that he has taken the dramatic decision to surrender revolver, presented to him by his brother Chiranjeevi, to dispel the apprehensions of his newly-wed niece that there was a threat to her life and also to her hubby from her family members. 'I was very hurt on seeing the TV telecast of Srija's marriage in which she expressed her fear to her life from the family members', he explained and added that to remove any doubts from her mind he had surrendered the weapon.

An emotionally charged Pawan Kalyan said that everyone branded him as an excited and emotional person. But if that would have been the case, I would have been killed 20 years back. I am not against love marriage, but true lovers should not runaway like cowards, he observed.

Pawan Kalyan further stated that he had come to know about Srija's love affair long time back. In fact, one of her friends had revealed that Srija and her boyfriend are likely to flee four days before the marriage. I had controlled all my emotions and kept the secret close to my chest because of the implications that would befall on my brother. "If I wanted do any thing to that boy Sirish, I could have done it. But no, I am not against love marriage and hate violence", he added.

The film star further made it clear, obviously to remove all doubts from the minds of the newly wed, that they (the family) are against encouraging goondas or hired goons. We do have a large fan following and infact have cautioned them not to do anything rash over the issue, he added.

Asked whether they have any knowledge about the whereabouts of Srija and Sirish, who were missing soon after their marriage since last Wednesday, Pawan Kalyan said that they have no idea as to where they are. We only want them to be happy, he said and added that he was very much upset about the health condition of his sister-in-law, who is bedridden with shock and might have to be admitted to a hospital any day. As a symbolic gesture that I am a peace loving person, I am surrendering my revolver. I have no use for it now, he explained.

In an obvious reference to speculations that the Chiranjeev's family was putting pressure on the police to trace Srija and Sirish, Pawan Kalyan said that the police have more important duties to perform like checking terrorists and prevent goondaism rather than go on hunting for fleeing lovebirds. Interestingly so far no police complaint has been made after Srija and Sirish went missing soon after their marriage.

Later in reply to queries from media personnel, the Circle Inspector of Jubilee Police Station, Mr.Srinivas Rao said that Mr.Pawan Kalyan has an arms license since 1998 and they had not asked as to why he was surrendering the weapon. "Normally license-holders deposit their weapons when they go out of station for safe custody", he explained and added that Mr.Pavan Kalyan can take back the weapon whenever he wanted. Pawan Kalyan is a registered member of Chennai Rifles club and the revolver was presented by Chiranjeevi to Pawan when Pawan was member of that club.

The statement of Chiranjeevi on Sunday after a prolonged silence over this second daughter's elopement appealing to his well wishers and fans to ensure that no harm is done to his daughter and today's dramatic gesture of Mr.Pawan Kalyan in surrendering his revolver, only goes to prove that a conducive atmosphere is being created to make Srija return home and resolve the crisis amicably once for all. Also the efforts seem to pooh pooh the charges that police pressure is being brought on Srija's friends and others who have attended the wedding.

Close sources say that more than eloping it is the statements and actions taken by Srija that hurt the parents very deeply. Srija's allegations that her family is a threat to her safety and despite Chiranjeevi's assurance that he only wishes for her happiness, she going to the high court today seeking protection seems to have hurt Chiranjeevi and his wife Surekha very deeply. On top of all this, Srija demanded that her family members meet with her in-laws and come to a concensus.
